After-Life Process

California Process (Legally)

(Every state process is different)

  • 8 days to file the death certificate

  • 24–48 hr waiting period before cremation

  • Refrigeration REQUIRED after 24 hrs if not embalmed

  • Certain beaches allow ash scattering (permit required)

  • Balloon releases restricted in some cities

  • No law requiring embalming unless traveling across states

  • Green burials allowed but limited
